From the few people that have commented on my blog posts from yesterday, I figured I would try to show why Brett Favre to the Vikings is a good thing from a different view.  Yesterday, the excitement in Vikings country was surreal.  2000 new season ticketholders, 6000 new individual game tickets purchased, and hundreds even thousand of jerseys were purchased or ordered yesterday in all of the Favre excitement.  The Vikings were last in the league in revenue last year and with the Metrodome that is to be expected.  They brought in thousands of dollars in the first day, and they expect to bring in more money in the upcoming days and weeks.

Speaking of the Metrodome, the Vikings lease in the Metrodome ends in 2011.  The Vikings have been trying for years to get enough public support to get a new stadium, and they have been rumored to be going to Los Angeles or potentially San Antonio.  If signing Favre can bring about  more excitement and positve PR for this team, it may be in fact a final push of positive momentum in getting a new stadium.

Third, if the Vikings struggle this year like many people feel they will for some odd reason, I think that most people will look at this and say, "We couldn't have done much better with Sage or Tavaris."  Most Vikings fans, and I emphasize most, feel that the Vikings have made an upgrade and are appreciative of the fact that the Vikings are trying to put together a championship calliber team.  They see the Vikings (the Wilf family in particular) going out and spending money, something that previous owner Red McCombs did not do very often.

I've heard some Vikings fans say they will not watch the Vikings this year because they have Favre.  They are in the minority.  The general excitement here in Minnesota is amazing and so many people are excited for the upcoming season.  I encourage all Vikings fans to look at this as a great journey and with the goal of lifting up the Lombardi Trophy.  I understand that it is tough to root for a man that was the enemy for 16 years, but now is the time to stand up and proclaim, "I am a Vikings fan.  Skol Vikings, let's skol."

as a fan of football..... the cowboys and that's hard at times.... i remain neutral about the fact that the vikes have signed favre. however, as a fan of the game, i am like most, sick of the favre situation of him leaving the game... for good and then returning. i did not realize how huge of an ego this man had. i was a huge favre fan while he was in GBay. then after his "stuff" involving leaving, retiring, then going to the jets, i just figured the man just wanted one more year in the game he loves. then the way he handled this off season. how he would not make a decision. he just kept talking and making everyone wait. finally, he made a decision and left the game. now he's back. all this if just a joke and has literally destroyed his legacy as most fans are concerned. the fact that he's w/ the vikes now.... i really could't care less where he is. i hope that your team does well this season. i've always liked minnesota, but now that favre is there it tarnishes things a little. the main thing that is sickening is that we all get to listen to this man go thru this AGAIN next off season. his holding another team hostage until his massive ego decides to make a decision.... one that will likely be changed again at some point.

Agreed, I think people are sick of the the whole Favre flip-flopping situation. Now that he has signed and the courtship is over, things will settle down, and people will tune in to watch the Vikings this season and people who like the Vikings or don't mind the Vikings will say, "OK, let's give this team and Favre a chance."

There was never any flip-flopping. He took a very deliberate and calculated path to the Vikings. He saw a better QB in the Packers camp the past few years and did not much care for the GM there, so he plotted his way to Minny. He is and never was under any obligation to tell the general public what he was plotting. His stop in NY only supports this was all as planned. Lets examine...

He played pretty well with a team he did not ave any experience with in the first half of the year. That showed he could do the same in Minny. Then towards the end of the year he fell apart and claimed he was injured. That put enough doubt in the minds of execs in NY to give him his release(he did not retire this past off season, they released him). If he would have started awful and finished strong, they would have had reason to keep him.
There was no way the Pack were going to move him to Minny directly, and even put stipulations in the trade that made it impossible to trade him there from NY. He needed to get away from the Pack but only had limited time, so he needed a one year stop-over. His resentment towards the Pack GM made him want to go back and beat his old team. The Bears offense was bad last year, with nobody to throw to(before Olsen and Forte became great options) and we have a QB this year. And the Lions are the Lions, so he was not going to either of those places. The Vikings are the only team that offered him two cracks a year at the Pack and it didn't hurt that they have (one of?) the best RB in the league.

This was a long, slow, very well executed attempt to beat Green Bay in Green Bay. I hope he beats them both times they play and lose every other game.

As a Bears fan, this couldn't have worked any better. He is a shell of his once pretty good self. I think this destroys the Vikes this year. TJ looked good at the end of last year, and Sage is exactly what the Vikes need, being a game manager type. That is one less team to beat out for a playoff spot. Thank yous go out to Brad Childress, Mike Tannenbaum, Aaron Rodgers and Ted Thompson. You have all paved the way for a good first year with our great new QB.

Ok I realize that some people are sick of Favre, but you have to say it's not ALL his fault that this is continuing. Favre wanted back to the Pack, they said "NO" , because they wanted to go a different direction which is fine. Favre was traded to the Jets, didnt just go there because he wanted to, and after 11 games he looked like he did in 2007. He got hurt which players do and had a poor second half. Favre just wants to play if you dont like it dont watch and if it does bother you it means you care/wanna know whats going on with him. Favre is good for the NFL. No matter which way you look at it.
