In case anyone hasn't noticed, the Rockies are on a tear this season that can only be desccribed as amazing. Since Jim Tracy took over for the Rox, they have been the hottest team in baseball, and are within reaching distance of the team that was given the NL West crown about 3 weeks into the season. While many people don't see the Rockies even making the post season, I see them making an 07esque kind of run in the post season. Maybe even better.
reason #1: Pitching is way better than it was in 07. As long as Cook is back for the post season, the Rockies have Cook, U-Ball, Marquis, De La Rosa, and Hammell on hill for them. All of these guys have shown an ability to win a lot of games and are great improvements over the 07 crew. Although Cook(just as good), Jimenez(way better now) were on the 07 staff. Marquis, De La Rosa, and even Hammell are way better than Morales and Fogg who are both in the bull pen. There is also an outside chance that Jeff Francis, the Ace of the 07 staff might be back (Quite unlikely though).
Yeah, we lost Holliday but we got back two things the Rockies needed. A reliable closer (Fuentes and Corpas were too inconsistant) and a replacement for Holliday. Carlos Gonzales may not have the power that Holliday had but he has good power, he is faster and is a way better fielder.
Now, with the signing of Giambi, the Rockies have a great backup for Helton and a great pinch hitter with playoff experience.
The thing that hurt the Rockies in 07 was a lack of playoff experience, now they have a ton of it. Go Rox baby.
