After the Eagles surprising 33-32 victory over the Jaguars on Thursday (with no help from McNabb and the rest of the first team offense), McNabb had some interesting comments to make. McNabb said something to the effect that the offense was not able to get into rhythm because of Mike Vick and the wildcat experiment (I love how McNabb spews out the same rhetoric about the offense in a rhythm, I don't hear other players or coaches say this). McNabb didn't come out and say this, but essentially what McNabb is saying is that I don't want to be taken out of them game or replaced at QB.
This has always been my problem with McNabb, he doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. McNabb is a nice family man, who has a clean record, and has never had a questionable off the field issues like so many other players in football. McNabb achillies heel has always been his mouth. When Terrell Owens was complaining for a contract, it was McNabb that fueld the fire by not backing Owens. McNabb instead choose to back another teammate, Brian Westbrook, and pushed for Westbrook to get a new contract. Then there was the debacle when before the draft, McNabb was quoted as saying he wants more weapons on offense (which the Eagles responded by drafting a QB Kolb). Finally, there was this past off season when McNabb was lobbying for a contract extension (which he didn't get, the Eagles just gave McNabb more money over the next two years) . My thoery is that McNabb was upset for being benched in the Ravens game, and wanted to be compensated for it because it hurt his feelings, but that is just my theory.
McNabb has to stop this non-sense. This Vick thing could work and be a great thing for the Eagles, but with baby McNabb on the team it won't. Vick threw the ball very efficiently, going 4-4. Vick did look a little timid while running the ball but that was expected after being out of the league for 2.5 years. Unfortunately, we are not going to find out what Vick can do. McNabb is not going to drop this, he is a baby, and everytime he is taken out for Vick, or is forced to play WR while Vick is lined up under center, McNabb is going to complain. He really needs to grow up, McNabb is on the downside of his career and has to realize he is going to be replaced. That is what happens when you get old in sports, you get replaced by someone younger and more talented then you. Just take a look across the street McNabb, Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer has been replaced by a 26 year old lefty JA Happ.
So grow up Donovan, and for once, think about the team instead of yourself for a change. Maybe the Eagles might actually win something this year (but probably not!).
