In the category of outrageous behavior by a cable company I would like to submit the case of Comcast against Directv. Comcast, the largest cable provider in the country owns Versus. Apparently Comcast believes they own ESPN, because they are making ridiculous demands on Directv so they can continue to show the channel. Comcast is now running scrolls on Versus telling Directv subscribers to switch. Yeah, so I can continue to not watch rednecks being thrown off bulls & second or is it third rate MMA. Here's a clue Comcast. ESPN has baseball & the NFL. You have the NHL. Now I like hockey, but it's like the #4 sport...maybe. ESPN has the NBA. You have bull riding? Hunting shows & other dreck that a real sports network wouldn't touch. ESPN has NASCAR. You have Indy Car. Now I love open wheel racing & hate stock cars, but let's face facts, You lose that argument again.
Directv is pretty good. I don't think I have had to call them about a reception problem in probably two years. Comcast I was calling about some issue monthly. Get over yourselves. Versus is Spike Tv minus the bad movies & japanese game shows.
Versus has now been taken off Directv. This has to be the stupidest move ever made by a growing cable channel. Comcast is demanding a 20% increase in fees from Directv, more than from any other cable or satellite provider. So Versus is on Dish which lost twice as many subscribers this year as Directv gained.
So when will the NHL start looking to get out of their contract? It depends on how it's written. I'm sure accesibility to a certain percentage of homes is in it, & when Comcast suddenly removes 18 million homes you can be sure this is being discussed along with possible legal action.
This reminds of when NY lost ABC because the cable company (cablevision?) was fighting with Disney over rights fees or the contract or something. It's really ugly, but expected when you allow too much power to too few companies.

I have had comcast and directv and when it rains in miami, fl the comcast goes out and the directv doesn't. what does that tell you? Also the on demand for comcast would go out and not work for the rest of the week. Directv is far and above the best cable/satelite provider anywhere!!!!!

Dish doesnt work well in our area so we have Directv, which I have always had good luck with. I pay the premium for college sports packages and am sorely disappointed that my favorite team has elected to continue to air games on the versus channel when we can no longer see them. I would encourage all sports programs to cancel their contracts with Comcast/Versus until ALL satellite users can receive them. Especially ASU!! I no longer live in the Tempe area but am a lifelong fan and am EXTREMELY frustrated that the game is on today but I can't watch because of a corporate America dispute. Comcast would do well to remember that Americans are reactionary and suggestible -- if enough people call for a boycott of their product -- it could happen. JUST SAY NO TO COMCAST!!
