Soccer has good design. Regardless if you like the sport, teams, or players you have to admit the design element in soccer is superior to any other sport. The color and design of jerseys to logos are bold, well thought out, and executed extremely well. It's true that the MLS is not as good as the European teams and leagues when it comes to design, but it's still pretty good.
As a New England Revolution fan and a fan of good design, I was estatic to hear that the club was releasing a 15th aniversary logo. I love the NE Revolution jersey, but I'll admit I wish the logo was more soccer/football'ish. The flag design is cool, but the shape is pretty atypical compared to the rest of the teams in soccer. So I was really looking forward to the new design. Maybe taking the good elements of what they have and cleaning it up, I think that would go a long way to making the team more credible.
So with all of my anticipation, you could see how shockingly disappointed I was when they released this:
:( All I have to say is that I hope this is just a draft and the final version doesn't look like it was designed with Microsoft WordArt. I like the concept and the overall design, but come on. Cheesy bevels and emboss, bad drop shadow, and terrible gradients make this logo sersiously look like it was designed in 1996 in Powerpoint or something. So please New Enland, give what you've made to someone who knows how to use Illustrator or Photoshop, give it a couple hours of rework and release us something we would be proud to wear or stand by.
