People love lists and quick analysis, and I love when people read what I write, so let's both enjoy the next 2 minutes...
AL Most Valuable Player:
1. Mark Teixiera, NYY
2. Joe Mauer, MIN
3. Miguel Cabrera, DET
The MVP award, more so than the Cy Young award, is tied to team performance. That said, no team has been more impressive in the AL this year than the Yankees, and no player on that team more impressive than Teixiera. Unless he has a horrible September, I expect Teix to pick up his first MVP award.
AL Cy Young:
1. Zack Greinke, KC
2. Roy Halladay, TOR
3. CC Sabathia, NYY
While Greinke has fallen to earth after an impressive first 2 months of the season, his 2nd half numbers are still great so far (63IP, 2.71 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, 73K, 19 BB) and while he has not had great run support, he is tied for 5th in the AL with 13 wins.
AL Rookie Of The Year:
1. Jeff Niemann, TB
2. Andrew Bailey, OAK
3. Ricky Romero, TOR
As good as Bailey has been in the closer role, Niemann has thrown twice as many innings and has twice as many wins. I put a premium on starting pitching, and Niemann has been the best rookie SP in the American League.
AL Manager Of The Year:
1. Ron Washington, TeX
2. Ron Gardenhire, MIN
3. Don Wakamatsu, SEA
Consider this a lock if Texas somehow catches Boston for the Wild Card or the Angels for the division. The Rangers entered 2009 as an afterthought but have shown to be a seriously talented team. If Texas fades and Minnesota catches Detroit, I could see the other Ron winning this.
Tomorrow, the NL picks.
