What's up fannation... been a very longtime! I am back and I really need a response to this little blog. We are having a discussions about records, the question is .500- whats the difference between a 6-6 college record and a 8-8 NFL. I am argueing the fact that it is neither winning or losing; you fininshed the season even. I have people saying that you can make he playoff in the NFL with an 8-8 record and therefore you could consider it a winning record.
I keep saying that it doesn't matter they are both .500 regardless of the number of a game each league plays. It all came up over the Notre Dame record of last year. I said that they got the bowl bid at 5-6 won the bowl game and ended up 6-6 (.500). Once again I am saying that it is not a winning record, it is an even season. To the fans and supporters of Notre Dame it could be classified a winning season since they haven't won a bowl game in so long. The people that I am disputing with says it is a losing record at 6-6, but 8-8 is a winning record in the NFL. I have asked them what is the difference they are both .500-
There are many teams that finish 8-8 that don't make the playoff in the NFL, but I can't tell these guys anything... 8-8 (.500), It is only every blue moon that you see an 8-8 record make the playoff unless they are division winners. I don't argue that 8-8 could get you to the playoffs in a weak division, but in my eyes still isn't a winning season... it's an even season.
Please Fannation I need as many of your feedbacks as possible but we need to settle this. Bottom line .500 is .500 it's even neither winning nor losing. We really need your thoughts, help us out, Thank You!

What's really the question here?
whether it is different in college and NFL?
it's not, at the college level there are good teams and bad teams that make it just as hard at their level, it is the same way in the NFL
or what a .500 record means?
I wouldn't see it as a winning record but your fighting a losing battle if you want assurance on it. It's an opinion, everybody will think differently about it for instance on your Notre Dame example, I would call that a successful season for winning the bowl but i would not call it a winning season with an 6-6 record, a very small difference but a difference all the same.
I hope that helps.
