I can't count how many Sundays that I sat on my couch, turned on the tube, and watched the Denver Broncos. I loved the Super Bowl years, endured the following seasons, and overall loved the atmosphere. I use to love watching the AFC West because my team was the only one that was consistant. The Raiders, Chiefs, and Bolts would either be great (Like the Raiders Super Bowl campain to there 1st overall pick or the Chiefs having the best offense in the league and then falling on there face). But the Chargers were just always kind of there. Then in the last few years, a chap named Rivers came along and I thought nothing of it, hoping that he would fall like Leaf. But then he started doing well, (not to mention pummeling Denver) and I disliked him. Then the whole "Cutler v. Rivers" thing went down, and with Cutler on my team, I backed Cutler and hated Rivers more than anyone in the league. When Cutler was traded I wondered if I would still hate Rivers as much and I do. I hate him more than any player in the league, but not for the same reason.
I recently read the ESPN AFC West blog http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest and it said something non-chalant that once I read it, I thought it should have been as big as the latest "Brett Favre is coming back" episode.
Rivers left money on the table so the Chargers could resign Gates is what the article said. Now I know that certain players do this stuff "Brady, McNabb", but it was the first time for me to see Rivers do something to make the team better at his own expense. (I'll always think that he was selfish for playing with a torn ACL in that playoff game). Then I got to thinking about how scary this is for my Broncos. The Chargers have a QB who has the physical and mental tools to be a great QB for years and now he shows the leadership and desire to win. Good luck to us other West teams cause we will need it.
I'm not saying that I like Rivers because I hate him. But I would be ignorant to not respect him.
