Last season, the Minnesota Vikings rode a dominant running game and stifling defence to the NFC North title. The result seemed admittedly unsurprising, as several pundits had the Vikes pegged to succeed. However, the smoothly sailing Viking ship hit serious snags when January rolled around, as Minnesota 's biggest weaknesses exposed themselves during a particularly tumultuous playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson went 15/35, and threw one huge interception to Eagle Asante Samuel that was returned for a touchdown. The pass defence allowed Donovan McNabb to throw darts around the field and rack up 300 yards. Above all, the offence showed a degree of anemia that prevented them from getting anything going.

In early NFL previews, more of the same was expected of the Vikings. Sure, their defence was stifling, and Adrian Peterson is the best running back in the NFL, but the passing game simply wasn't dynamic or reliable enough to vault the Vikes into the next domain.

That was until mere days ago, when Coach Brad Childress and owner Zygi Wilf invested in an octogenarian quarterback from Mississippi named Brett Lorenzo Favre.

Brett Favre, despite his various shortcomings, could be the best quarterback to suit up in the purple and gold since Daunte Culpepper. Despite his laissez-faire attitude, he still has a rocket arm, oodles of passion, and big game experience. He also has the added bonus of bringing hurt to Packer Nation, a little bit of acerbia which could never hurt.

This one minute move has the same experts trumpeting a Minnesota Vikings Super Bowl. Hasty? Maybe. Warranted? Maybe. However, Favre will have to rely on the rest of his squad to help win games.

Considering TJack was an obvious weak link, they should be better this year.

And nice article RW.

Brad Childress & Brett Favre will find a way to tank this season.

Good preview though.

I essentially agree with everything you said except your Childress call. A D? I'd say that's very generous, considering he rode a defense he had absolutely nothing to do with to the playoffs, while watching the offense fall apart because he had no idea what to do and the special teams consistently be terrible- something no coach should see happen.

He's a joke. Other than that, nice job!

This is a beautiful thing. No matter if the subject is something no one cares about, at least its sports. Good job Red
