Before the draft, Marty Hurney and John Fox were on the hot seat; they’d had a few poor drafts in a row and it was beginning to show on the field over the course of the last few seasons. They *seemingly* have made some very solid picks in the draft, however they still have glaring needs at a few positions that they didn’t address in free agency or the draft. If the Panthers falter this season, the lack of addressing those needs will be one of the key reasons why, and could lead to the dismissal of both Fox and Hurney as the Panthers look to right a ship that still has a great deal of talent.
Would the chin be a candidate? Yes. His availability could push the Richardsons into making a hasty move, ridding themselves of the unsexy but stable Fox and going with Cowher, the epitome of the kind of coach the ownership has always wanted since the team’s inception. Could you imagine Julius Peppers as an outside LB in a 3-4 defense?
