It is official. Nashville Predators majority owner William "Boots" Del Baggio is heading to the big house for 8 years. Del Baggio has been convicted of fraud, having been found to have forged financial documents to appear as if he had $110 million dollars. That was terrific due diligence on the part of the NHL. What? They couldn't spot the whiteout?
The Securities and Exchange Commission has also launched a lawsuit to recover $20 million it alleges Boots stole from investors. Three of these investors appeared at his sentencing hearing calling for a lengthy sentence, stating that Del Baggio has stolen their retirement savings and children's educational funds.
Del Baggio's response? "I was blinded by pride and ego." He said. "Everyone makes mistakes."
Actually Boots, backing into your neighbour's brand new car is a mistake. Sleeping with your boss is a mistake. Ruining people's lives by stealing every penny they have so that you can play golf with Mario Lemiuex? That is downright evil.
