A Dark horse team, a team in which is counted out by others but could surprise most by being a stronger team than assumed to be. I'm going to pick one team from each conference. Most are assuming the Patriots will win the AFC East, Ravens the AFC North, Colts the AFC South and the Chargers the AFC West. As for the Wild card I believe in the AFC this could be up in the air between the Jets who I think are underrated, Cincinnati, and Denver. But I think the team that could stir things up in not only their respected division but also their Conference as far as the Wild card and the playoffs, is the Pittsburg Steelers. With Ben Roethlisberger and his Pittsburgh Steelers team coming off a .500 season last year, with Ben playing one of his worst seasons recorded yet, with a QB rating dropping from the mid 90's to the mid 70's and seeing a spike in his TD to INT ratio in favor of his INT, look for him to rebound along with his team in the upcoming 07-08 season. Along side Willie parker and Hines Ward look for this team to be a unexpected threat in not only the run for better season but a playoff birth.
As for the NFC Conference, most are assuming the favorites to win their divisions are: The Eagles winning the East, Bears winning the North, Saints winning the South, and the Rams or Seahawks winning the West. I found this Conference very difficult to pick a dark horse there are many teams who are looking like they will improve from the previous seasons standing position. Arizona looks like they could do well this season, along with Carolina Panthers. But I believe the team that most resembles a Dark horse team is Detroit. Although they may not make the playoffs, but many teams that play them are thinking of the season prior, with a 3-13 record. The Detroit lions are not my pick to make a playoff spot by any means or even the wild card but, look for this team to cause some problems with the new WR and more experienced team. They are certainly not a 3-13 team this season.
So my two Dark Horse teams this year are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions.
