Being a Penn State fan I heard all the calls for the firing of Joe Paterno. "He's too old", "the games passed him by", "It's time for someone knew", "He's lost control of the team", "His old ways don't mesh with the new kids", the list went on and on. Pundits across the nation were saying it was time for either Joe to step down or for the school to show him the door. This is how we treat people today who have given everything they have to an organization. Especially those people who have made it possible for the organization to grow and thrive.
Now the commentary has begun about Bobby Bowden. Some rich, schmuck, Board of Trustee member wants Bobby to go away quietly into retirement. I can only assume it's because this schmuck wants to design FSU into his own image. Whatever that may be.
Yeah, FSU Football may be experiencing some problems. In this "give it to me now" world we live in, programs aren't allowed to faulter and redevelop. they have to stay on top all of the time or they are a failure. This is not only unrealistic, it is not natural. All programs have hard times to get through, just like people. No life goes untainted by tragedy and hardship. It is the perseverance to overcome these tragedies and hardships that make us human beings. Bobby Bowden has not lasted too long. He has not destroyed the program. He is going through what every person does at one time or another in their lives. The difference being, Bobby has the ability and talent to persevere and overcome. The rich, schmuck, trustee apparently is part of that "give it to me now" generation. In the end, Bobby will be seen as the good man that he is and be revered and appreciated by many. Will anyone remember the name Jim Smith?

YES, BUT THAT WAS YESTERDAY, I USED TO BE 21 TODAY, IM NOT. THEY HAVE OUTLIVED THEIR USEFULNESS, BY HAVING EGOS LARGER THAN TOILET SEATS. YES, PEOPLE LIKE YOU LOVE RECORDS, YET THEY ARE ONLY A PART OF THE PIE. DO YOU THINK THE WORLD WILL STOP, WHEN THEY DECIDE TO EXIT COACHING, OR DIE, NO WE WILL HONOR THEM, ERECT A STATUE WORSHIP THEM AND THE WE WILL WAIT FOR THE NEXT GAME. WORSHIP YOUR PARENTS, NOT SOME FIGUERE HEAD

It isn't just the trustee. Everyone here in Tallahassee wants Bobby to step down. Estero, about your statue comment. We already have a stained glass depiction of Bobby on Doak.
