Why Braylon Edwards is a great trade | manuvsteal's Blog

I'm sure that Jets fans have differing opinions of Braylon Edwards, some think he's garbage and it's a bad trade while most think this is a great trade. I'm of the opinion that this is probably the best trade I've seen since Curtis Martin and Bill Parcells came to NY. Here's why.

The Jets gave up 2 players and 2 picks. Chansey Stuckie is a slot receiver trying to play 2nd WR. The Jets already have Brad Smith, and David Clowney to play that position, so he wasn't needed. Jason Trusnik was already replaceable by practice squad LB Kenwin Cummings. Therefore the players they lost were fillable by players already on the team, so they didn't lose anything there.

2 Draft picks. If the Jets give up a 3rd and a 5th rounder, heres what it really means. I checked, and there are NO starting #1 WR's that were picked lower than round 2 since 2004, except for the following: Jericho Cotchery (4th), Bernard Berrian(3rd), Brandon Marshall (4th), Marques Colston (7th). The past 6 drafts have produced 4 guys that have been picked round 3 or lower and are currently starting as the #1 WR option.

What this means: If the Jets were going to fill the starting WR spot, they wouldn't have gotten him in round 3 anyway, so they traded the pick and got an All Pro capable receiver. That's an excellent trade. They still retain their top picks, and sign backup's and role players with cheap free agents or undrafted free agents.

In the end Braaylon Edwards cost them nothing that they didn't already have to give up. Hope he is this years Randy Moss comeback story.

He cost the Browns sooo much money, time, agravation etc.
