Major League Baseball has reached its Final Four.  The National and American League Championship Series will get underway Thursday and Friday ??? in Los Angeles and New York, respectively.  Many people are hoping to see a Dodgers/Yankees World Series.  Just think about the hype of Joe Torre going back to the Bronx to try to stick it to the Boss and the Yanks.  TV would LOVE it.  That???s why I???m hoping for an all Los Angeles matchup between the Dodgers and the Angels.  First, let me state that I am a die-hard Cub fan.  Always have been, always will be.  But I???m also a baseball fan.  I love the game.  I played the game, I???ve broadcast the game, I watch just for the pure joy of the game itself.  I do not have a rooting interest in any of the four teams still left.  What I do have a rooting interest in is the state of the game.  When it comes to the postseason, Television and its lap dog Bud Selig have ruined baseball.  The World Series should be OVER by now???not still two weeks away.  Baseball is NOT a cold weather sport.  Nothing ticks me off more than seeing a baseball game where the fans are bundled up more than at a Bears/Packers game in Green Bay in December.  By bowing to the almighty dollar of expanded playoffs and set-in-concrete schedules dictated by the Networks ???  Selig has allowed the postseason ??? the best baseball of the year ??? to become a circus of cold hands, slow feet, botched plays and frozen umpires missing calls because they???re shivering so hard they can???t see clearly.  Tell the truth ??? would YOU consider going to a game in 30-degree weather?  Even if my Cubs were in game Seven and I had free tickets ??? I WOULD NOT GO.  I???d go somewhere with a bunch of fans inside and watch and cheer with the crowd.  Baseball should be played in warm weather.  Games have been postponed for no other reason than it was too cold to play.  Yet we expect to see our champions crowned at the end of October or beginning of November in cities like New York or Philadelphia, simply because TV sets the schedule.  WRONG.  Give me an all Los Angeles World Series this year.  At least then it would be real baseball, not some freeze-dried version thereof.
