I don't have the numbers in front of me. Sorry.
But I can't help but be amazed that a seasoned coach like Andy Reid could go into Oakland with a strong running game, face a Raiders team that was, what, in the bottom three in the league in terms of defence against the run, and then try to win by throwing the ball 80% of the time.
How does that happen?
I would think that the Eagles coaches sat in their offices the week before, looked at the numbers and said to themselves: just run it, baby.
So what happened on Sunday?
You see this kind of thing all the time. Coaches on the sideline making the weirdest choices, while the broadcasters in the booth and the fans in the stands know how wrong those choices are. Like when they're first and goal on the two, have been averaging six yards per rush all game, then go incompletion, incompletion, incompletion and finally field goal instead of running it in for the touchdown.
The only thing I can think of, with regard to the Eagles/Raiders deal, is that Coach Reid decided his team couldn't possibly lose to Oakland and desperately needed to practice its passing game.
Bad mistake. One that might cost them a trip to the playoffs. Yikes.
