The only national sports news network on cable may be dying.  ESPN has had many stupid ideas, no doubt, but I cannot see them continuing all their coverages of sports without having one drastically bad idea. ESPN covers sports as the best in the business, but whenever there are "boring" times in the world of sports (it's hard to think of a boring time but thats what they call it.) ESPN comes up with an idea that they think is decent but the general public can't stand it. The most recent, which is still going on, Who's Now, is just one of many horrible thoughts that are put on television. Once they had the idea of having "simulated" games between the 2005 USC football team and other great college football teams that were dominant in what ever year.

Who's Now was started at a time when there wasn't to much activity going on besides the MLB and some NBA trades which included the Kobe Bryant saga and talks with KG. Of course, that soon as they air Who's Now, Michael Vick gets indicted, Beckham makes his debut and an NBA referee bets on games that he officiated. Now, Im not saying that if these things didnt happen that we would be more satisfied with Who's Now, because we wouldnt, but this was horrible timing for ESPN. It is extremely doubtful that ESPN will sell itself this year, I think they atleast want to get their 30 year anniversary, which will be in 2009, done with then see where there at and maybe by then they will have enough expierence with bad ideas that they wont have to put those little SportsCenter "fillers" in and can just worry about informing the fan about news in the world of sports. But, then again, isn't that ESPNEWS' job?

who's now is a terrible segment; the Eastern Seaboard Programming Network has really slipped over the years and is almost unbearable to watch these days, too many talking heads and opinions. I'll stick to ESPN news

Nice post. I don't think ESPN is dying! I just think that they are losing some credibility. Who's Now is a waste of my SportsCenter time and in fact, I even wrote them and told them about it.

They're not dying, they're just sucking even more. I have an anti-ESPN group that focuses on ESPN's crap, such as 'Who's Now', Around the Horn, Jim Rome is Burning, Cold Pizzia, bad sports commenting, and the ever-expanding ESPN monopoly on sports. You should join.
