Lovie Smith took over the calling of his beloved Cover 2 defensive scheme early this season for the Chicago Bears.  Right now his team is 3-3 -- should be 1-5 but for a couple of missed field goals -- and was just embarrassed by the Cincinnati Bengals 45-10.  And it wasn't even THAT close.  The Bengals shredded the Bears defense every way possible.  Run left, right, middle.  Pass short, medium, long.  And the defensive "mastermind" who leads them CAN'T EVEN MAKE ADJUSTMENTS.  Why can't he see that running your linebackers AWAY from the line of scrimmage does not do anything to help your run defense.  Nor does it help your pass defense when it creates so many open spaces in the middle of those zones.  Chad Ochocinco and the Bengals destroyed the Bears secondary all night long.  Until Smith understands that his stubborness in staying with an outdated scheme that most teams now know how to attack, the Monsters of the Midway will be monstrous only in their futility.
