A jury ruled against Charlie Weis in his attempt to prove that the two doctors who performed Weis' gastric bypass acted negligibly.  Weis went under the knife in 2002 to help him solve his lifelong battle with obesity.  After the initial surgery was completed, Weis bled internally for 30 hours (a known complication of the surgery).  A corrective surgery was performed but Weis nearly died in the process.

Before I start sharing my opinions let me say that I am a huge fan of Notre Dame football and of Charlie Weis.  Those who really know and follow Notre Dame football realize that Weis was the right pick to replace Tyrone Willingham.

With that aside, I don't know what motivated him to seek a lawsiut against the two doctors.  Suing a doctor is just dirty business anyways.  Those doctors were dedicated to ensuring Weis' safety and its unfortunate for Weis that complications occured.  It wasn't the doctors' fault.  Gastric bypass (stomach stapling) is a very risky surgery anyways.  I'm glad to see that Weis lost the case because he certainly didn't need the money he'd receive.  I hope that it wasn't an attempted revenge due to a personal grudge Weis held.  I'd rather see Weis worry about the new offense or continue to reel in the blue-chip recruits than see him waste time trying to sue two perfectly innocent doctors.  He only lost around 100 lbs. from the surgery, which turned out to only dent Weis' weight problems rather than solve them completely.  I don't see it getting any better for him for a long time -- Head Coach of the Fighting Irish is no walk in the park.
