thumbsupdownWasn't really pretty now was it?

However, the fortunate thing is, we as Redskins fans really did not expect much more than we got.  In fact, many of us expected worse.  The Redskins fall to 2-5, lose for the season the one player who consistently generates offense, Chris Cooley,  and head to the bye week awaiting possible shakeup changes on the sidelines.  Oh the beauty of the 2009 Washington Redskins.   How we have been blessed.

The weekly Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down we award not to just the best and worst players of the game, but player we felt made a significant impact.  It is all encompassing, more than  just stats.   We award 2 Thumbs Up and 2 Thumbs Down.

THUMBS UP:

TE Fred Davis:  Why?  Two reasons.  Cooley went down to an injury, likely season ending, and Fred Davis stepped up to the plate.  Second, the fact there was a 2008 second round draft sighting.   Davis caught 8 passes for 78 yards.  That's EIGHT RECEPTIONS.  In fact, that total gives Davis 15 catches on the season, 1 more than both Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas COMBINED.  How sad is that?  Davis is in a big time situation.  Cooley is likely gone for the season and Davis has a great opportunity to step up and show Gruden, oppps, I mean the Redskins,  that he was not a wasted 2nd round pick.   He took a nice stride last night not allowing Cooley's absence to stall the minute passing offense we actually have.  Further, Davis needs to improve the blocking part of his game and the best way to do that is to play.  He will get that opportunity.

DE Andre Carter:  Why?  We called it here.  In fact, we called it the day of the Albert Haynesworth signing that the biggest beneficiary would be Andre Carter.  Why?  Because the double teams that Carter once drew are now on Haynesworth.  I would take Carter straight up on many one on one situations with several offensive tackles.  He has speed, burst, and some good moves.  He is having a monster season.  Last night Carter recorded 5 tackles, 1 assist, 1 sack, and a forced fumble.  For the season, Carter has 24 tackles, 10 assists, 6.5 sacks, and 3 pass deflects.  Not bad.  Carter played well, very well last night and deserves yet another Thumbs Up.
