There are a bunch of cool stats out there, and I have some ideas for stats that would be really interesting to have. With the fantasy sports becoming huge, smaller stats are being overlooked, unfortunately.
MLB
- Quality At Bats-This stat shows how many quality at bats a player gets. This doesn't always have to be a hit, but could be like a 12 pitch at bat that makes the opposing pitcher work. That's a quality at bat, because it tires out the pitcher, but only gets one out.
- Quality Hits-Two outs, no one on, and someone gets a single. The next batter gets out, and the inning is over. That single was pretty useless, while a hit with a man on second would be a quality hit, and also an RBI for the player. This is a little like BAW/RISP(Batting average with runners in scoring position). That's why some people have like a .300+ average, but seem to never score, because they are getting useless hits.
- Mode amount of hits(MAH)-This stat takes the amount of hits in each game a player plays, and finds which one occurs the most, a.k.a. the mode. This stat would be more precise than batting average, because a player could have a .500 batting average if he went 0 for 4 one day and 4 for 4 the next day. Just looking at a .500 average would let you assume they would probably get a hit every game. Example:In 10 games, a player gets as follows: Game 1, 0/3; 2, 0/3; 3, 2/4; 4, 0/3; 5, 0/2; 6, 3/3; 7, 3/3; 8, 1/4; 9, 0/5; 10; 2/4. That's a decent .343 average, which looks nice. With this stat though, the MAH would be 5, which would mean half of the times, the batter would be hittless.
NFL
- Percentage of yards per scoring play(PY/SP)-This stat shows how many yards of each scoring play a player accounts for. This stat is very excluded in fantasy football, when touchdowns account for large amounts of points, when yards don't as much. Let's say a cornerback gets and interception and returns it 20 yards to the 2 yard line. Then, the running back comes on and scores a touchdown. The running back would account for the touchdown, when the person who really got most of the yards was the cornerback. The cornerback's PY/SP would be .909, which would be great. A more common situation is that many NFL teams have a primary running back most of the drive, and when they get into the end zone another running back comes on to score. The other running back deserves more of the credit for the score, not the scoring running back.
- Quality Yards-Let's say it's 1st and 10 Team A. The QB has two incomplete passes, and it's 3rd and 10. They hand it off to the running back then, and the running back gets 9 yards, leaving Team with 4th and 1. Was that run really that useful? Not really, unless they got into field goal range, because they have to punt. Team A punts to Team B, and Team B's offense takes the field. Team B's running back picks up 4 yards. Then he's stopped for no gain. On 3rd and 6, the QB connects with the WR for a first down. That would be 6 quality yards, because it gained them a first down. Other ways to get qualty yards include scoring a touchdown, getting into field goal range, and any other first down conversion.
NBA/College Basketball
- Not really a big fan of the NBA, so I only have one stat that also includes the word quality-quality points. A team could go 30-51, and win all their games by double digits. They could also lose all their games by single digits. A lot of those points from the double digit wins could've been saved for those single digit losses. Really, what this means is how many significant points a team scores, and also a stat could be compiled of the insignificant points.
I hope you liked my ideas, and I'd love to hear your comments on them.

only responding to the football comment.
love the percentage of yards per scoring play idea.
not so sure about the quality yards, for the reason you bring up. are they not quality yards if the running back puts the team in field goal range? how do you measure that?
btw, the broncos are my first love, but the eagles are my second, and i too live in st. louis. cards are sucking so... go blues!
