The NBA will never be what it once was, there is no denying that, but the NBA is in a situation where they might have to fold altogether. Theres no question that the National Basketball Association hasn't exactly brought that excitement into the homes of families that were watching good basketball. Now, we have "thugs playing the game but after this Tim Donaghy scandal clears up a little, we might want those "thugs" because they are better than nothing.

In my mind, David Stern will announce his retirement before the season starts, but I dont know what his date is for his retiring. All I know is that a man with such pride, in a league he helped (no matter what you think) in the toughest of times, just can't bear to think of what will come of his league and what tradegy this will lead to in the future. This whole Tim Donaghy thing will never leave the NBA. It is like a permanent scar or tattoo that is more noticeable than Mike Tyson's. Right now, the NBA needs David Stern because he is the only one that can them out of this situation, even if it's just with the court and trial. But, after all that, people will realize that it will never leave the NBA and Stern will have to retire. Then, the NBA has to pick a replacement and let's just hope that he will atleast keep the NBA in business, let alone clean slate.

What Stern should do, but he won't, to leave his mark on the National Basketball Association is to have what they had in the 80's. Less teams. Get rid of Toronto. Combine, or get rid of the L.A. teams. Combine the Trail Blazers and (Super) Sonics for one team in the Pacific Northwest. Combine/ get rid of New York Knicks or New Jersey Nets. I would also suggest to get rid of the Charlotte franchise. I know this may sound like a crazy idea but just go with me here, the main thing they had in the 80's thats different than now was less teams, the reason this is so big because then you have more "stars" on one team. L.A. had 3 in the 80's. Boston had one big one but wouldnt have had the players they did if there had been more teams. Detroit had mainly one, but Laimbeer and Aguirre and Mahorn were also key contributers.

Chuck Daly was on the "Best Damn Sports Show Period" and said that was the main difference in the eras, so why not fix it? I mean the NBA is tarnished from this referee so why not just try to do a crazy idea and see how it works?

ITS NOT THE END OF THE NBA WHAT ARE U THINKING

Your idea for having less teams in the League sounded crazy and dumb at first but now I'm thinking it isn't such a bad idea. There would be more talent on teams making for more competitive matchups. But if they do that their next step should be changing the playoff format.

The idea of having less teams does sound crazy, there are many talented athleats out there playing basketball. Less teams would mean less exposure and a reduced fan base. besides more talent on one team doesn't always work, look at Denver. The fix for a crooked ref will be a long uphill battle to gain back respect for the ref's in not only the NBA but every sport.
