Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin suffered an upper-body strain in Sunday evening???s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets and his status is week-to-week, the team determined Monday.
Ovechkin has only ever missed 4 games in his entire career. Two of them came at the beginning of last season when Ovechkin went back to his native homeland of Russia for his Grandfather's funeral. He has been one of the most durable NHLers since his arrival into the NHL in 2004.
Ovechkin suffered an 'upper body' or what we believe to be a shoulder injury during the second period of Sunday's game against Columbus. He did not return to the ice. Earlier Bruce Boudreau indicated that Ovechkin could miss Wednesday's game against the New Jersey Devils, but make a return to the lineup on Friday. However the downgrade of Ovechkin's status from day to day may have that scenario in question as well.

Probably a good thing for the NHL... but not for the rest of the Southeast Division.
