This seems to be the attitude by the Yankees. Last night, even as Madson closed the deal for the Phillies in game 5, the Yankees appeared the most relaxed and confident. And rightfully so. The road ahead for the Phillies to repeat and win it all is one huge hole to climb out of.

Last night only prolonged the agony of defeat. I hope I am wrong. I am not necessarily a Phillies fan, but a fan of the NL, and to that end state I like to see the NL teams win the WS. When the Phillies lost game four, and expecially in the fashion in which they lost it, they sealed their fate then and there but refuse to laid down and play dead.

Yankees up 3-2 going back to Yankee stadium where they just dont lose should be the first clue to the Phillies that their season will not see them with another crown. The Yankees had the best home winning record in MLB this year. They doubled up on their opponents at home this year and now all they have to do is win one of two.

For the Phillies, the obvious. They have to win every game now. Seems like a lot at first but then you realize , heck that is only two more games. Possible? You better believe it! But here is the big but, "But; their pitching has to stop New York." So far, Cliff Lee in game one is as close to shutting the Yankee line up down as anyone could get. But now, call them butter because they are on a roll. Jeter, Damon, Posada and Matsui are hitting every thing that comes across the plate. And not just when the bases are empty, they are driving in runs as well.

The Phillies? If I were Girardi I would walk Utley every at bat and challenge the rest of the team to do something. Werth has been a bright spot for the Phillies but it has not been enough, especially batting him as low as sixth. I would have made the move like Dusty Baker did when he batted Bonds second or third to ensure he got more at bats during a game and in the end more at bats over the long haul. This is what I would have done with Werth. I would have put him between Utley and Howard for two reasons. First, to break the lefty - lefty line up and second to ensure he got more at bats during the course of the series. The more times the Phillies could turn the line up over, the more times he would bat. He was already batting well enough to protect Utley so Chase would not have lost any at his at bats. I think it would have given Chase even more good pitches to hit. Just my opinion but offense is not the Phillies down fall.

When it is all said and done I think we will see the Phillies reign end due to their bullpen giving up late inning runs. Again. There is no one coming out of the bullpen for them right now with any confidence at all. Even Madson with two outs last night looked nervous. There was no fire in his eyes or look about him to indicate, "I got this!". No killer instinct seems to exist with any of the Phillies relievers right now and the Yankees detect this and are feeding off of it.

I know the old cliche exist that "Time will tell" and that is as true now as it ever was but for me I hear some heavy person with a big bosom tuning up backstage.
