This is a rant at the "media" in general.  Before I go any further, let me make it clear I'm not talking performance, but behavior.  And this isn't an attempt to knock TO either.  They have both been drawn into the "Damned if you do, Damed if you don't" media trap.  And maybe we fans should share some of the blame as well.

For this discussion, I'll use WE as the label for the media and us fans.  We want a story to go with our wins and losses.  We NEED reasons, explanations and sometimes scapegoats.  So we ask the player (or coach, GM, etc) Why...if they give us the PC answer we're mad and say they aren't telling us the REAL story.  If they do open up, then they are complaining, disrupting or malcontents.  There is no way they can win.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes someone does have a bag game.  Sometimes there is a player who gets the big contract and calls it in from then on.  But if you look across most of professional sports, that percentage is pretty low.

What set me off was the latest round of stories suggesting that Roy was throwing Tony under the bus like TO.  For the last 2 weeks (actually, from when he was traded) the question has been about Roy's production.  I understand that.  I also see that from several sources he has been working hard to help Dallas win games.  He's been blocking to help his teamates make plays.  Yes, he's dropped some passes, maybe run the wrong route or not been where Tony thought he'd be.  But he's not been taking plays off from what i've seen.

This is NOT a defense of Roy.  Just here in Dallas I could write almost the exact same blog about Tony Romo, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett as well as others.  Last year the complaint was lack of production and not getting the ball to TO.  This year the focus is on Roy and Tony even though we are executing on both passing and running plays and spreading the ball around to more players than ever.

Now that Marion Barber's production is down, I'm just waiting to hear "what's wrong with MB III"!

Maybe we should remember what Jerry Jones was told when he bought the Cowboys.  "Jerry, They pay their player too"!!  And a big part of sports, just like in the animal kingdom, the fitest survive and as performance falls off for one player, another has a chance to step up.  There is no vaccum in sports, just like in nature.

Love to hear your thoughts...
