As many of you know, I love the Yankees. I always have and always will. But I have to say something that will probably make my fellow Yankee fans angry: There is no way, and I mean NO WAY, the Yanks are coming back to win the divison. I have heard some Yankee fans saying this because the Yanks have been hot and because of the history of The Red Sox. These fans are either just very optimistic or they are idiots. This Red Sox team is too good to fall apart. Why, you ask? Many reasons why. First lets look at pitching.

Josh Beckett 13-4, 3.27 ERA, 117 Ks and 25 BBs in 124 innings

Daisuke Matsuzaka 12-7, 3.79 ERA, 136 Ks and 49 BBs in 137.2 innings

Curt Schilling 6-4, 4.20 ERA, 71 Ks and 19 BBs in 94.1 innings

Jon Lester In his first start 6.0 innings, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, 6 Ks

Tim Wakefield 11-9, 4.74 ERA, 67 Ks and 44 BBs in 125.1 innings

Bullpen:

Mike Timlin 1-0, 1 save, 3.31 ERA, 14 Ks and 7 BBs in 32.2 innings

Hideki Okajima 2-0, 4 saves, 0.89 ERA, 43 Ks and 12 BBs in 50.2 innings

Jon Papelbon 0-2, 23 saves, 1.72 ERA, 53 Ks and 11 BBs in 36.2 innings

It is pretty hard to choke when you have all that pitching. The Red Sox have quite possibly the best 1-2 punch in the bullpen in MLB. The only other one I could think of right now would be Scott Shields and K-Rod for the Angels.Curt Schilling has looked very good by reports and Lester looks great(God bless him by the way). The bullpen was thought to be the weakness of this team and it has been the strength. And Donnelly will come back in August. It pains me to say good things about the team I hate, but this pitching is just so good. Now you got the hitting: Coco Crisp is hitting .282 all of the sudden. He has been hot. Manny has been on fire(is anyone surprised?) David Ortiz is not what he once was but he is still hitting .320 with 60 RBIs. Even Lugo hasn't been horrible as of late(he still is hitting .225).

Now you have the Yankees. Most Yanks Fans are getting excitied because the Yankees have been doing rather well the past few weeks. I'm I excited? Of course. But, and this is a big but, they are currently in the easiest part of the schedule. Look at the games in August:

2 games vs. White Sox at home

3 games vs Royals at home

3 games vs. Blue Jays at home

*Day off*

3 games vs. Indians away

3 games vs. Orioles at home

4 games vs. Tigers at home

3 games vs. Angels away with no day off

*Day off*

4 games vs. Tigers away

3 games vs. Red Sox at home

1 game vs. Devil Rays at home

The first part is pretty good. The second part is a killer. Now look at the Red Sox in August:

2 games vs. Orioles at home

3 games vs. Mariners away

3 games vs. Angels away

*Day off*

3 games vs. Orioles away

3 games vs. Devil Rays at home

*Day off*

3 games vs. Angels at home

3 games vs. Devil Rays away

4 games vs. White Sox away

*Another Day Off*

3 games vs. Yankees away

1 game vs. Orioles a home

The Red Sox have a much easier schedule in the dog days of summer. This is the thing about the Yankees: They have better hitting than The Red Sox and the starting rotation is starting to look very good, especially when Hughes comes back, but the bullpen is iffy. There has been talk of the Yanks getting Damaso Marte(who would be good because Mike Myers sucks), Octavio Dotel( never was crazy about him), and even Jon Garland. Jon Garland would be very nice but the White Sox will be asking alot for him. The Yankees are a good team. Do they still have a shot at the wild card. Of course, they do. Anyone who says they don't is either an unfair Yankee hater or, like I said before, an idiot. Normally when someone brings up the Red Sox falling, they always say 1978. The Red Sox are a better team this year. They have the pitching and enough hitting to get it done. And this Yankee team is nowhere close to the 1978 team. The Red Sox will win the A.L. East.
