Want to really know how great the MLB Players of today and yesterday really are? I love to immerse myself in stats and you can as well. I have started blogging and I want to also review one players stats and achievements so you can truly appreciate some of the best.
Sal Bando. Sal Bando was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics in the sixth round of the amateur draft in 1965. Just a year later on September 3, 1966 he made his MLB debut. The right-handed hitter played multpile position throughout his career. He played 3B, OF, DH, 2B, 1B, SS, and he even pitched 3 innings. He was a four-time All Star, and established himself as one of the best A's players of all time. In 1971 he came in second in MVP voting, in 1974 he placed third in MVP voting, and in 1973 he was fourth in MVP voting. In 1969 he passed the century mark in runs scored, his only year to do so. 1968, 1969, and 1973 were years in which he appeared in every single game of the season. In six years of his career, he hit 20 or more homers. Two times he hit over 100 RBIs. He also stole 20 bases in 1976. His fielding percentage was .960. In 1973 he had 295 Total Bases to lead the league. In 1973 he led the league with 32 two-baggers. In 1973 he led the league with 113 runs scored. In 1973 he also had 64 extra base hits which again led the league. His thirteen sacrifice flies in 1974 led the league. Bando had 3 World Series Rings in his career. 16 years of hard work and good leadership. He will not be a hall of famer, but he will be known as a great player. Thanks for reading!
