This is my third conference preview.  Here are my others.

 http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/47970  Big East

The Big Ten is the second-best conference in the nation.  Though people in Big Ten country like to think that they are the best, they are living a lie.  Every sane person in America knows that the SEC is the best.  The Big Ten isn't that far off though.  With the powers like Ohio State and Michigan, they are close to Florida and LSU.  Teams like Wisconsin and Penn State are also competitive yearly.  Iowa and Purdue always seem to play hard.  Michigan State is slumping now, but they have the talent to be good.  Northwestern, IU, Illinois, and Minnesota make up the cellar of the conference.

Key In-Conference Game: Michigan @ Wisconsin, November 10-This is very similar to the Louisville-West Virginia game that I analyzed.  This game will probably decide the Big Ten and possibly have National Championship repercussions.  Wisconsin could be a great team.  They have the pieces there with players like PJ Hill, Travis Beckum, and Marcus Coleman who are All-American candidates.  Michigan has the most powerful offense in the nation with players like Jake Long, Mario Manningham, Chad Henne, and Mike Hart.  This game will be a shootout, but Michigan will win by taking advantage of the first year starter at quarterback Tyler Donovan.  Now that Stocco is gone, Donovan has the reigns for the first time.  With players like Shawn Crable, Jamar Adams, and Morgan Trent on the other side of the ball, Donovan will have a tough time finding his receivers.

Upset Alert: Ohio State @ Purdue, October 6-Ohio State has to recover from losing Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, and Antonio Pittman on offense.  While breaking in eleven new starters, they will have a tough task traveling to West Lafayette and playing a dynamic Boilermakers offense.  Curtis Painter puts up monsterous stats at QB throwing the ball to speedy Dorien Bryant who runs a blazing 4.24 forty.  The defense is returning 9 starters which trumps the 4 returning starters on the Buckeye offense.  With the insanely talented Purdue team finally getting experienced, they can be the suprise team in this conference.

The Big Ten will most likely get eight bowl bids for this season.  Teams like Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan will make January bowls, while Ohio State, Iowa, Purdue, IU, Illinois, and Iowa will make less prestigious bowls.  The Big Ten went a pathetic 2-5 in their bowl games, but expect that to improve with Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State, Purdue, IU, and Illinois all vastly improving their squads.  Right now in the summer, the Big Ten is in the news for pondering adding another team to create two divisions, in the fall they will be making news by winning games.
