We all remember it. Spending a weekend or vacation, watching our favorite players do their job, enjoying it. Sports were so......... innocent, there was no doping, using steroids, or other forms of cheating that are used today. People we used to trust and were our role models, recently, that "role model" position has been tarnished. Michael Vick, in a fall from glory, has been accused of dogfighting, a terrible crime, which has shocked the sports world. Barry "Barroid" Bonds, accused of doping for years to improve his stats. Yet he denies it. Floyd Landis, the "should have been" winner of the Tour de France, proven to have used performance enhancing drugs. Cycling, thought to be one of the cleanest sports, has been proven not to be so clean. Almost every day in to the annual tradition, more people are being tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Even in golf! People have tested positive for these. The recent NBA scandal of Tim Donaghy, the gambling ref, believed to have bet on games that he was reffing. He fixed some of these games to his benefit. What has happened?? People, even legends we used to trust, have proven to have lied and become untrustworthy. We used to hear all kinds of good things in sports. How sports legends helped common people who had problems. We heard things like"NFL star helps build scarred family's life", or "Shattered life helped rebuilt by NBA legend ....". What happened? Now we hear about all kinds of scandals and bad things. "Vick indicted by FBI", and "Donaghy gambled on own games". The sports themselves have not caused this. The athletes did. They have become selfish and cruel (in Vick's case). This shouldn't have happened. What can we do about it? Please comment.
