The date is for the day of training camp that I am reporting, not the date I write this.  With that said,yesterday was the first day of training camp for the Indianapolis Colts.  Here is some of the news.

Defensive tackle Corey Simon did not report for undisclosed reasons.  He was reactivated from the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list last week.  He will be vital on first and second down to stop the run.  The Colts finished dead last in rushing defense last year, and he could be part of the solution.  The team did not comment on the missing tackle, as did Simon.

Rookie wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez was the first to report to camp.  He said that he did not know how long it would take him to get to Rose-Hulman in Terre Haute, Indiana.  He was seen taking in his high-altitude tent into the dorms.  College Gameday did a special on him and his tent.  The low oxygen helps his stamina and recovery time by having his lungs work harder.  He is rooming with former Ohio State wide receiver teammate Roy Hall, a fifth round draft pick.

Bob Sanders is still recovering from a shoulder surgery this offense.  It might limit his participation at the beginning of camp.  He says that he is ready to get back on the field, but the organization is not as certain.  Last year, Sanders was on the PUP list to start the year with shoulder surgery.  The reason that he missed 12 games in 2006 was his knee which he injured in a practice.  Sanders will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Charlie Johnson is expected to take the left tackle job with the sudden retirement of Pro Bowl tackle Tarik Glenn.  He played the majority of the Super Bowl with Ryan Diem going down with an injury.  He was a sixth round draft pick last year.  Tony Ugoh, a second round pick this year, is expected to take the job in 2008.

Reggie Wayne showed up at camp with an interesting choice of clothing.  He was wearing all camo, including a scarf, which he had over his mouth.  He said his first choice was a Cato June Bucs jersey.  Last year, he showed up in an Edgerrin James Cardinals jersey.
