1. He's a leader. The Knicks have 14 role players and no leader. If I had a choice of Iverson or anyone on the roster taking a last second shot I'd take Iverson. He comes to play, plays hard consistently, and sacrifices his body, what more can you ask from a leader?
2. His playmaking ability, shooting ability, on ball and perimeter defense are better than anyone the Knicks have playing PG. If the goal is to make the team the best it can be, then he's the clear favorite.
3. Chris Duhon is a very good backup, but not a good starter. He wore down with heavy minutes, and Iverson can't play as many minutes. Marriage waiting to happen. Iverson gets to start while Duhon goes back to a backup role. Split the minutes with Iverson getting slightly more and everyone is happy and healthy aat seasons end.
4. For his career Iverson has averaged over 2 steals a game. The Knicks are allowing opponents to shoot over 50% FOR THE SEASON. That's horrible. Adding a perimeter defender, even at his age, may shed a few points that they give up a game, by him harrassing the opposing PG. If you think he can't do it, remember old PG's the Knicks picked up before...Doc Rivers, Derek Harper, Allen is the next old wiley team leader.
5. He is streaky, but he can shoot. He can also take it to the rack. While I'm watching Chris Duhon shoot 1-8 night in a night out, it just makes sense. Te fact that he can get to the free throw line adds dimension, as the team can really on something other than jump shots.
6. I Know I said 5, but this is important. Allen Iverson is one of maybe 5 of the best players of the last 20 years. Kobe, Shaq, Tim, Jason Kidd, Allen Iverson. On a losing team you just don't give up a an open opportunity to get a guy like that. He puts fans in seats, he makes people watch MSG again. He makes the Knicks 3 Iverson jersey a top 10 seller by seasons end. All these things should make it clear. Make this guy a Knick.
