If you guessed Kevin Towers, you could be right.

That's right, the Padres' GM, Towers, wanted Ensberg so bad that he didn't want to risk competing against a few more teams once Mo was released to the open market. However, Towers perhaps saved some face by trading for a "player to be named", and/or cash. If he's smart, he'll send Purp the hunk of cash and hold on to the prospects for a worthy player.

Surely Towers inquired about Loretta and Lamb, seeing as the Padres' offense could use a boost. So, Purpura must've been been asking too much for them and not budging if Towers ended up settling for Ensberg.

Mo's a great guy, but as far as Astros fans are concerned, he hasn't been a part of this team since 2005.

Good luck, Mo. And keep in mind, the last time the Astros DFA-ed a player, he got picked up by a team that would go on to win the World Series...
