After reading the details of the newly expanded Mark Teixeira trade, I like the deal a whole lot more. Turns out the "player to be named later" is actually two players: the aforementioned Matt Harrison and another lefty, Beau Jones. Apparently, the Rangers agreed to take Harrison despite injury concerns and managed to get another good young pitcher as well. The Rangers arsenal of young teenage arms now looks like this: Kasey Kiker, Blake Beavan (if he signs), Michael Main, Neil Ramirez, Neftali Perez and Jones. Figure on at least two of them becoming 15-game winners at some point in their careers.
I also liked the Eric Gagne trade, which means that in dealing Teixeira, Gagne and Kenny Lofton, the Rangers have added 9 new prospects, most of them highly regarded. And there's still time to move Laird, Benoit, Sosa and Otsuka.
Finally, I have a new online blog for those of you who are interested in discourses of a more political nature. Go to LiveJournal.com and check it out under charlescurtis03.
Until next time.
