Uga VII, the Georgia Bulldogs' English Bulldog mascot, died unexpectedly today. He was four years old. Like most bulldogs, "Loran's Best" died due to heart problems. Uga VII took over for his father at the beginning of the 2008 season against Georgia Southern. Uga VIII will be named following the season.
There's really not much to say about Loran's Best. I was there at Sanford Stadium when the Seiler's parked their car and opened the back to reveal him ready for his first Georgia game against Georgia Southern. I was there among a large group of fans trying to take a picture of this dog. We all thought that this would be the first Uga since Uga III to experience a National Championship in Athens, but it wasn't meant to be. Only four years old, his death came as a shock to me. All the Uga's hold a special place in my heart, and it's sad to hear when one has died. It's kind of like losing a pet. Well, rest in peace Loran's Best. We all know your with the other Ugas cheering the Dawgs on to another victory.
