In response to:
Garnett on his way to Boston
The Celtics will soon land All-Star forward Kevin Garnett in this offseasons blockbuster trade. Boston, in return, has agreed to send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair and two first-round picks to the Timberwolves. The two teams are still working out details, but the deal looks to be done.

Does anybody really think the Celtics actually have a chance?  Come on now.  Yes you need 3 really good players to win a title but you also need role players.  Even the Bulls, of Jordan, Pippen and Rodman had very good role players.  Everyone on that team contributed.  Are you telling me the Celtics have those pieces?  If Garnett has to play centre then who will cover the power forward.  Who is going to help rebound?  Can you really play these guys 40 minutes a game and expect them fresh for the playoffs?

Ainge is nothing more than a short sighted GM who had no face in himself to build a team from the draft up.  He realized he couldn't actually scout talent so he went fro broke.  Sorry people this isn't a team that will compete for a championship.

being in the east i definitely think they will compete for a championship. I can see them making the finals at least once in the next 4 years, which is their window of oppurtunity. of course i dont think they will win a championship becuase of the teams in the west.

If they can pick up some good free agents, then they could have a chance. A 7 for 1 player trade, for a player who in nearing the end of his prime, Crazy! The BIG 3 won't be able to carry the team by themselves. They are old and playing a lot of minutes will be tough

There are still a lot of ifs. As the team stands at this time they are just average and that is in the east.

They are a playoff contender, which is more than you can say they were 3 weeks ago. Ainge didn't give up as much as people think. Out of all he gave up I would only take 2 of the guys, Jefferson and Green. They do need a PG and center but they can find veteran guys on the market. Boston is finally excited about basketball again. That is what is important. But I still think Chicago has a better squad at the moment, based on depth.

They are a contender, but for how long... is the window open long enough for them to be Championship contenders? I give them 2-3 more years of solid but falling performance. Chemistry doesn't develop over night. Everyone talk's about the Celtics... I think the T'Wolves got the best deal, next year KG would of left for free and they can definatly afford to not make the playoffs (last three years with kevin), WITHOUT kg on the team.

They got 5 players, and two first round picks... for ONE player! They will have more options on their payroll and a younger team to build with. It will be interesting to look in three years and so who is at the better place.

Chemistry is going to be important, but those three are going to have a desire to win (none of them were even in the playoffs last year). Someone mentioned K.G nearing the end of his prime? Granted his contract has him there for 5 years, but it's not often you find a 7 footer who averages 20 and 10 every night. Combined with a shooter like Ray Allen (barring any injuries of course), I'd take that, especially in the East. Of course this is all specualtion, and I wish he were a Laker... but I digress...

The Bulls are still way better.

I think many of us can see the writing on the wall. Do you know why Boston made this deal? It was for one reason and one reason only: money. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Boston Celtics of recent years haven't exactly been rolling in dough from ticket and merchandise sales. Now with a huge marquee player like Garnett, the price of admission is justified. The Celtics will be seeing a lot more green this season, but it's naive to think they'll be seeing any gold when they mortgaged their entire roster for one guy who isn't getting any younger and the 5th pick for a guy who isn't getting any younger either. They'll make the playoffs and have a good chance to win the division, but they won't make it past the second round at best, and are one serious injury away from being back in the lottery.

When is money ever NOT a decisive factor in sports? Of course bringing in a player of Garnett's status automatically guarantee's sold out arena's, merch. sales, etc... not only in Boston, but throughout the entire league. This trade is helping the NBA right now in many ways. Who knows how far they will advance come playoff time, but how long has it been since anyone cared about the Boston Celtics? No offense...

This is valid criticism but look at what Miami and the Lakers have done with shaq and San Antonio with Tim Duncan. If you have 1 star player sometimes thats enough to get guys to sign with a team for a smaller contract. The celtics have three all-star players now they are in the running now for guys like Webber and PJ Brown, Brevin Knight and other veteran guys looking for a shot to win a ring. That celtic team was a joke last season even with a healthy Pierce and it would have stayed a joke until they could bring in some real players this is the right move even if it might be short lived. I'd rather have short lived success then a long time of failure and mediocrity. Jeferson, Gomes, West, Telfair, Ratliff those guys aren't bringing a championship to any team not now and not in the future.

With the signing of Eddie House, it's already clear that Ainge is committed to signing veterans. House won't make or break the team, but he's a solid shooter that'll come off the bench and give 20-25 minutes of solid play.

Brevin Knight hopefully will get picked up, and the ageless wonder, Dikembe Mutumbo would be a decent fit at center (probably can give 25 minutes a game).
