I did this system a while ago on my old ESPN profile and now that I quit doing ESPN blogging I thought I would post one of my best blog posts that I had. So please look over and tell me what you think. I am open to constructive criticism.
I know so many people have probably done this in the past but I feel that I should make my own BCS championship playoff format. With that said all teams outside of the playoff that would normally be eligible to play a bowl game would play a bowl game. I am picking a couple of conference champions because they would receive byes only because they have to play a conference championship game so they wouldn't have such a hefty schedule.
Rankings as follow:
1-3) ACC, SEC, BIG 12 champions
4-10) At large top ranked teams that weren't a ranked 1-3
11-12) SEC, BIG 12 second place teams (or third place teams if the second place team already qualified in 4-10.
*Limit 3 teams per conference in this 12 team playoff bracket
Game 1) Rank #5 .vs. Rank #12
Game 2) Rank #6 .vs. Rank #11
Game 3) Rank #7 .vs. Rank #10
Game 4) Rank #8 .vs. Rank #9
*Winner advances to round 2 and loser plays in a bowl game
Round 2 (Quarterfinals):
Game 5) Rank #1 .vs. Winner of Game #4
Game 6) Rank #2 .vs. Winner of Game #3
Game 7) Rank #3 .vs. Winner of Game #2
Game 8) Rank #4 .vs. Winner of Game #1
*Winner advances to round 3 and loser plays in a bowl game
Round 3 (Semi-Finals):
Game 9) Winner of game #5 .vs. Winner of Game #8
Game 10) Winner of game #6 .vs. Winner of Game #7
*Winner advances to round 5 and losers advance to round 4
Round 4 (3rd place game):
Game 11) Loser of game #9 .vs. Loser of game #10
Round 5 (CHAMPIONSHIP GAME):
Game 12) Winner of game #9 .vs. Winner of game #10
Now I know what you're thinking, this is too many games for college teams to play. Well NFL teams play 16 a year and at the most here a team would play 17. I think this would enrich the game and increase viewership drastically.
