On this one...
Reading through the comments on the Astros trading Ensberg, here is a quote from M.E. in the local San Diego Union Tribune paper:" I am 100 percent felling great. The shoulder is zero reason for my play. The situation in Houston was that the other guys, Mike Lamb and Mark Loretta, were playing well and I was getting phased out. When I started getting only a few at-bats a week, I went into the tank."
Um, what was Morgan hitting in April? .247 with 73 AB. May - .211 57 AB. A "few at-bats" a week, maybe my definition is a little off, that would be 3 or 4 per week, 12 ABs for the month. Morgan has struggled for over a year. From the time he split time with Geoff Blum, to the Huff trade to the Wig trade, the Astros have been tinkering with Ens for a while now. Subbing in a hot hitting middle infielder (Loretta) or an average at best Lamb was out of desperation for offense due to Ens not producing.
I like Ensberg, and I feel for the trauma that he went through in the minors with the robbery and all, but he was not producing for more than a year, and both the team and the player needed a change of scenery.
I hate that the 1st week of August is "plan for 2008 time". But it is and we need to see what we have got. And if you are not in the long term plans, sorry, but you may not get the playing time you were wanting.
