Ok, so I was kind of bored and I decided to write a blog. I didn't want to make it completely random, I still wanted it to actually be sports related. This is the blog: Top Five Impact NFL Defensive rookies. I will do a blog on offensive rookies later.

1. Patrick Willis, Linebacker, San Francisco. Willis is a great athlete and is the best choice for #1. He does well against the pass and the run. Basically the complete package in a linebacker. Can play out or in. The total package.

2. LaRon Landry, Safety, Washington. Landry, the former LSU standout, had 315 tackles and 12 interceptions in college. Has great instincts when playing the run and pass. He'll make a huge difference for the Skins and will make a great 1-2 tandem with Sean Taylor.

3. Paul Posluszny, Linebacker, Buffalo. Poz is expected to earn the starting job at MLB, replacing London Fletcher-Baker. He has the size, toughness, and speed to make a huge impact on Buffalo's 28th-ranked run defense.

4. Darrelle Revis, Cornerback, New York Jets. Revis may very well be the best CB to come out of the draft. He does well in coverage. Also can make an impact in the return game. He has the ability to be a franchise CB.

5. Adam Carriker, Defensive End, St. Louis. Carriker can play tackle or end. A tough player, which is good because the Rams will be moving him inside this season. Has solid work ethic. He bulked up to 315 pounds and he'll take up lots of room inside. He'll be an excellent player for the Rams for many years.

steelrs are going with the 3-4, thats why timmons will make an impact, if they went 4-3 he wouldn't start.

Yes the Steelers are definitely going to run a 3-4, but I think we will see some tampa 2 sets to confuse offenses. BUT the base will be a 3-4. However, Woodley the 2nd rd pick is healthy (Timmons is not- pulled groin) and has looked awesome at training camp. I think Woodley will have a bigger impact. BUT I think to say either of them will be top 5 impact rookies is a bit of a stretch, for this year. Pittsburgh does continue to turn out great LB's, but neither Timmons or Woodley will be a starter until at least the second half of the season. Both will be rotated in and out and mostly used as situational pass rushers, at least that is what Tomlin has said thus far. But I guess we will see as the preseason games get under way how his opinion on those 2 changes and evolves as they get some NFL game experience under their belts... good blog buddy- welcome back...

What a shock...the guys taken in the top 15 of the draft...

LaMarr Woodley is actually participating in camp, unlike Timmons, and has been very impressive thus far. If any rookie on the Steelers is going to have the kind of impact you are writing about, it'll be him, not Timmons.

Hate to say I told you so, but I called Timmons being a bust in April, and I said back in December Woodley was going to be a Steeler. I thought Woodley would have been a first-rounder, but hey, close enough.

Patrick Willis is the real deal nice job man

You forgot Poz. I'll assume that you will be correcting that shortly.

Gaines Adams=Bust
Talk about a bad pick. You just don't take a one-dimensional pass rusher with a top 5 pick. Gaines Adams sucks against the run and he'll be a bust.

What about David Harris or Darrelle Revis? David Harris should've been a top 20 pick, it's just that he's purely a 3-4 player. He'll be a very good player for the Jets and Eric Mangini will make him into a pure monster. Darrelle Revis will be, by far, the best cornerback to come from this draft. He's a very good cover man who also plays zone very well. I think that Eric Mangini will turn him into a franchise cornerback.

ADAM CARRIKER IS A BEAST
he is the reason why the RAMS will go deep this year

August 4, 2007  04:28 PM ET

I have heard recently that Tomlin is leaning towards the 4-3 because the Steelers no longer have their traditional proven depth of speed with all 4 LBs now that Porter is gone and his speed hasnt been replaced with proven talent than you cant expect rookies to jump right in to fill.

The Steelers have ALWAYS replaced the big-name OLBs with unproven guys. Joey Porter replaced Jason Gildon, who is the franchise's sacks leader. Gildon replaced Greg Lloyd, who would have been the sacks leader had he not gotten hurt.

You're going to see them run both looks very often, and not be in a specific base defense. This is where defense is going in the NFL (see New England, Baltimore), and Tomlin is one of the brightest innovators in the league.

Cooz....wasn't it Clark Haggans who actually replaced Gildon in the starting lineup?

LaRon Landry is the man. He's my preseason choice for DROY.

August 7, 2007  07:30 PM ET

Where's my boy David Harris? He'll be a better pro than Paul Posluszny.

Revis isn't in camp. Dumb

I understand he isn't in camp, but he will sign and be the best cb from the draft
