This is the last statement from phillyman311's opening argument against EagleHater in the throwdown "The Eagles will win the NFC East":
"And of course Kevin Kolb"
I am speechless (partly because of the lack of puncuation). That is probably the second or third time I have seen Kolb's name in a throwdown about why the Eagles will win the NFC East. This kid had a great college career at Houston and I think he is going to thrive in Philadelphia, but how many of you out there (excluding delusional Eagles homers) think that Kolb will help the Eagles win the NFC East THIS YEAR?
I for one, think not.
There are only two ways I see Kolb getting any playing time this year: 1) The Eagles are up by 38 points with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter and 2) McNabb, A.J. Feeley, and Kelly Holcomb hurt and the Eagles' season is condemned.
First off, Feeley is in front of Kolb. If/when McNabb goes down Feeley will come in. If Feeley goes down, I can the Eagles sticking with Holcomb to protect Kolb. If Holcomb goes down, ok then I'll Kolb the chance to start. This isn't necessarily because of how I think Kolb will perform. It is basically just protecting him from getting eaten alive by the fans.
The Eagles took a lot of heat for drafting Kolb with their first pick of the draft. If he comes into a game and does not produce the way the fans think he should, he will hear about it. I know nothing of is psyche and if he gets rattled easily, but he and the front office would be under intense fire.
I know a lot of you are thinking, "Well McNabb had a lot of pressure when he came into the league." Yes he did. The fans were upset at the Eagles for not picking Ricky Williams (LOL at how that turned out). However, Kolb would be replacing a quarterback that is 4,000-5,000 yards away from become the Eagles all-time leading passer. When you look at the Eagles' leading passers before McNabb came into the league, just look at the names: Doug Pederson (leading passer during McNabb's rookie year), Koy Detmer, Bobby Hoying, Ty Detmer, Rodney Peete. McNabb was not replacing an established quarterback like Kolb would be doing.
So basically, all you Philly homers, get it out of your head that Kevin Kolb will help the Eagles win the NFC East. If you say he will in a throwdown, you lose my vote. The only way he will help is if one of the scenarios I mentioned above will happen. There is a very outside chance he will get playing time in important games. So get off him already.
