In Portugal, three teams are usually on the top of the table. These teams seem to compete well in Europe, which shows that it is a pretty good league. I'll start off with last year's champions FC Porto. They have players like striker Helder Postiga, goalkeeper Helton, and midfield general Ricardo Quaresma. Quaresma is one of the up and coming players in the world, watch for him in the future for Portugal and with a bigger club team if he gets better. This team won the UEFA Champions League in 2004. Look for them to suprise some in the UCL this year. Last year's runners-up was Sporting Lisbon. They are lead by captian and midfielder Joao Moutinho, defender Paulo Renato, and goalkeeper Tiago. This team also has the power to suprise people, so look for them to turn some heads. Lastly is Benfica. They have the strongest midfield in Portugal, they have Petit, Rui Costa, and new signing Freddy Adu. That's just the start, they have a good goalkeeper in Quim and a good striker in Nuno Gomes. Petit is one of the best players in the league, if he plays to his potential, they can compete in any competition. So here are my predictions:
1. Benfica- Even with the loss of Simao, they look good to win.
2. FC Porto- Just missing out is Porto, Quaresma has a big season.
3. Sporting Lisbon- They come close, but the league is very good and they can't get it done.
