The Mountain West is becoming a powerhouse in the midmajors.  It started with Utah winning the Fiesta Bowl over Pittsburgh in 2004.  Now, with the addition of Texas Christian, they have gotten a lot better top to bottom.  They are competing with the WAC for the coveted seventh conference position.  There are question marks though.  Will Brigham Young respond from losing Jon Beck, Johnny Harline, and Curtis Brown?  Can the Utes win without Brett Ratliff?  Can Air Force win with the Wishbone?  There are many questions in this conference.  This is one of the least top heavy conferences in the nation.  All nine teams can contend for the title, but the powers like TCU, BYU, and Utah are the most likely.  No one should count out Wyoming, Air Force, and San Diego State either.  It should be a great run to the finish in this conference.

Key In-Conference Game: TCU @ BYU, Nov. 8-Since there is a three team race with TCU, BYU, and Utah, this was a hard choice, but TCU is the only one that can contend for a BCS Bowl bid.  The Horned Frogs have brought back almost all of their powerhouse defense.  Brian Bonner is the best defender in the conference, and the front seven are very good and experienced.  BYU has lost its power trio on offense.  Without Jon Beck, Johnny Harline, and Curtis Brown, they will have to find a new offensive scoring threat.  The TCU defense will be able to win this game.

Upset Alert: BYU @ UCLA, Sept. 8-Sure the Bruins have the experience and talent to be a BCS Bowl contender, but do they have the coaching.  In September, Karl Dorrell has problems motivating his team.  He is the Norv Turner of college football.  While BYU will be pumped up for this game, the UCLA players will overlook this game and be more concerned with the Pac-10 play.  Take BYU.
