By any (reasonable) person's estimation, hundreds of players took steroids during the "Era". So are you in favor of erasing every record of every pitch, at-bat, out, inning and game? Or do you just want to take the single best player of the "Era", and erase or otherwise "asterisk" his records? In other words, does singling out one person for all your scorn, and ignoring hundreds of others who committed the same offense, somehow make you feel like you're defending baseball? Or serving justice? Or just joining a chanting mob of townspeople, waving your torches and pitchforks at the one person who's easiest to single out? You're the ones who are cheating. You're also intellectually and morally lazy.

But you don't have to like Barry to think this full frontal assault is pretty ridiculous. The media fueled our indignation about steroids, handed us a whipping boy, and demanded we take sides. And there was never any question about what the "right" side was for the good of Mom, baseball and apple pie. It's a pity how easily people fall for it.
