It has been a few long, long months since the Raiders drafted JaMarcus Russel, and he and his agents are still playing the argument that the Raiders won't throw in an injury and skill clause. For those of you who don't know what that means, it means that if Russel is injured, possibly for his career, or just a long time, the Raiders have to pay him ht esame salery as he would if he was palying to sucre his financial future. Skill clauses are there for the player if he doesn't pan out, he can still get part of his salery, just as if he would have played great. Russel and his agents also want a half a million dollars more per year than Mario Williams got on his contract last year. Lets face it, Mr. Davis: The Raiders don't have high profile players on their roster, which means pleanty of cap room, so just sign him!

Well said.

Why the hell can we just not get a deal? It's not like we're the Colts having to worry about being 20 million over the cap next year.

I agree, if we thought he was good enough to draft him with the #1 pick then we should believe he will pan out. Therefore give him his injury and skill clause and lets win baby. -S&B-

Al's tring to set a game changing precedent here...I support him, although I wish the fate of the franchise wasnt tied into the struggle...For all the media is bashing huge guaranteed rookie contracts, they sure are smashing on Al & the Raiders with the "they shouldnt have drafted him if they couldnt pay him," talk, youd think theyd wake up and smell the freakin roses the man is trying to change the system before rooks eat up 50% of the cap with guaranteed salaries.

My solution- compromise, if the Raiders are offering $28 mil guaranteed, no skill clause, and Metz wants $31 mil w/ the skil clause, give him $29 mil guaranteed, $15 covered by the skill clause...get the man in camp but start the effort to coral escalating rookie salaries...
