Tonight Allen Iverson made his first start back with the 76ers: 11 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, 1 steal in a 93-83 loss to Denver. Not a bad debut... I'm very curious to see how the whole situation shapes out. Can A.I. turn the 76ers into winners? And what happes when Jure Holiday and Lou Williams are healthy?... that all remains to be seen...
Now onto my main post:
It might sound crazy, but it's time to sell this year's top two rookies. Tyreke Evans is averaging 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal on the season. He saw a huge increase in his production when Kevin Martin went out with a wrist injury since Evans was able to leave his point guard duties and slide into the vacated starting shooting guard spot.
Even at Memphis, Evans often looked a little out of place playing the point guard position. But Martin should be returning within a month, meaning that there is a very good chance that Evans will go back to playing point guard. But Martin should be returning within a month, meaning that there is a very good chance that Evans will go back to playing point guard. Even if Martin plays small forward and Evans stays at shooting guard, the number of shots he takes and points he scores are going to decrease. Martin is a 25 point-per-game scorer, and there's no way that Evans will be able to score as many points once Martin returns. Evans' stock will never be as high as it is right now, so it's time to cash in.
