As we head into the 2007 season on Monday vs. the Baltimore Ravens, let's take one last look at that amazing 2006 season.
The Eagles jumped to an early 4-1 division lead with McNabb having another MVP caliber season. Then, they had three straight, tough losses to teams like New Orleans, Tampa Bay, and Jacksonville. They were 4-4 heading into the bye week.
Things seemed to be turning around Week 9, where McNabb had another spectacular performance, and a win against the Redskins. But then winds changed, and the Eagles lost McNabb yet again.
At 5-6, most people said the season was over, but they never gave up. Neither did we, the fans.
Jeff Garcia came in for McNabb, and it all started Monday Night in Philly. Battling back from 7-0, 14-7, 17-14 deficits, the Eagles gained the lead 27-24. Next they came into Washington, another win. The Eagles were gaining steam. A 36-24 win against the Giants sent them into Dallas on Christmas Day, where they easily handled them 13-7. They won the East 10-6, ona 5 game winning streak.
After Dallas lost the night before on Tony Romo's mishandle of the snap, the showdown was between Philly and N.Y. With the game tied at 17, David Akers nailed the game winning field goal, and the Eagles moved on to face the Saints.
That night vs. the Saints, the season ended, but a dream for a Super Bowl didn't, and it never will, thanks to the most passionate fans in football, the fans of the Eagles.
