Much has happenend on the second day of the winter meetings. We have some rather important signings as well as a few trades, including one that by many is being considered a "blockbuster".

Here is a quick recap of day 2 in Indianapolis:

Chone Figgins and the Maringers finally came to terms on a deal for 4 years. It is rumored to be worth about 36 million dollars, or 9 million dollars per year on average. Figgins has one of the best gloves at 3B and he is easily the fastest 3B in the league, possibly the fastest player in the whole league, period. The knock on Figgins has always been his terrible postseason performances. Playing in Seattle however, I don't think there is much need to worry about that.

The Yankees, Diamondbacks, and Tigers are very close to completing a deal that would send Ian Kennedy from the Yankees and Edwin Jackson from the Tigers to Arizona. The Tigers would recieve 3 prospects, and Max Scherzer. One of those prospects would be Yankees star outfielder in the making, Austin Jackson. New York would be getting the biggest piece in this deal, outfielder Curtis Granderson from Detroit. The word is, that the Tigers are making all these moves, and releasing all their stars because the team is low on funds.

The Texas Rangers and Florida Marlins are currently in talks to get a deal done. THE trade would send Josh Johnson to Texas in exchange for top prospects Justin Smoak and Neftali Perez. Texas must be desperate for pitching if there willing to trade their top 2 prospects for an unproven pitcher from Florida.

Rafael Soriano is likely to be traded by the Braves before the start of the season. With the additions of Saito and Wagner, the Braves already have plenty of expensive closing pitcher caliber pitchers. On top of that, the Braves still have Mike Gonzalez under contract as well.

Matt Holliday and the Cardinals are only getting further away from agreeing to a deal. Holliday and Boras want a deal worth at least 100 million dollars. After hearing this, it appears as if the Cardinals suggested to Holliday that it would be a better idea for him to pursue the free agent market.

Well, that's the biggest news from day 2 of the Winter Meetings. I'll be back on tomorrow to discuss day 3 and whatever goes down.
