I watched the first three quarters of last night's (August 9) game. It's impossible for me to predict regular season outcomes from the first preseason game but, I will give you my assessment.
The Cowboys are going to have to get better coverage people to play the middle of the field on defense. It looks like teams that can stretch the field with their wideouts will put up big numbers with their tight ends and slot receivers. This strikes me as important because of the receiving corps that both the Giants and Redskins have.
The Boys also need to establish early success with Julian Jones so that they don't have to try to make Marion Barber III a first down back. Barber is probably the better of the two overall but Jones is their best runner and has a better initial burst that will keep them out of second and long and third and long situations. This will greatly benefit Tony Romo. Romo seems to be one of the big questions coming into the season. He performed very well. He was efficient and wasn't asked to do a whole lot which is how I think his role should be in the regular season also. From one game, it looks like the best motivation for Leonard Davis was to tell him that he is an underachiever. He looked like a bully out there pushing little kids around on the playground. Not much like the pushover he appeared to be for the Cards.
I don't know if the return man that Indy has is great or that the Cowboys kickoff team is soft but, nearly every return looked like it was a block or two from being taken the distance.
Hopefully, this comes off as an objective evaluation and not as the hate-filled rants of an established Cowboy hater.

Honestly, I think the cowboys always look good on paper, but always seem to underacheive. They look pretty intimidating, but we'll have to wait for regular season. Not to mention the Colts D isn't that great.

very good evaluation, it's nice to see someone on here who knows what they are talking about and doesn't just say "oh they suck" or "owens will ruin the locker room" or "romo is ****" like many of the clowns that come on here
