I spent 10 HOURS watching the NFL Draft this weekend.
It was beautiful outside...and I spent Saturday in my basement watching the NFL Draft.
I think that I have crossed over from "fan" to "obsessive-compulsive".
But hey, faithful readers...Brady Quinn ended up going to Cleveland anyway. I can't for the life of me understand WHY Cleveland just didn't take him as their first pick...they took a huge gamble trying to trade to get back into the first round to get him...but it paid off for them.
Okay...I guess I can understand why after all. The Browns can now pay Quinn around $2 MILLION a year less than if they took him as their first pick, and they got the top two guys on their draft board. Some have called this the "Resurrection of the Browns".
These developments leave me in a strange position. I like Brady...he was my man at ND, and so he has a special place in my heart. But I am not a Browns fan. In fact, the "Resurrection of the Browns" makes me a little uneasy as the Browns are a division rival of my Steelers. And let's see...the hated Ravens STOLE...yes, I said STOLE...Troy Smith as the last pick in the fifth round. For those of you who are not OCD about sports like I am, Troy Smith won the Heisman Trophy this year. You know...that small little token given out to the BEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYER IN AMERICA. He beat out my man Quinn for the award, and...to be frank, is a lot stronger player in many ways than The Mighty Quinn. How he slipped to the 174th pick is beyond me. The guy must be a closet serial killer or something. But anyway...my point is this. The Ravens are already strong. Kick-my-Steelers-**** strong. The Browns are in the middle of a "resurrection". My Steelers have their work cut out for them. It'll be a little strange to root against The Mighty Quinn come the first Steelers-Browns game this year, but rest assured...I will be rooting against him. No offense, Brady...but you are no Ben Roethlisberger.
Oh...by the way, I owe the Bulls an apology. I predicted that the Heat would sweep them out of the playoffs handily. I really called that one wrong. The Bulls swept the reigning champs in 4. I still don't think they'll make it to the finals, but you go boys!!
