Here my weekly rundown of Bay Area teams, minus the Kings and the Warriors.
San Francisco Giants - The Giants are in a bit of a post-756 free fall right now, having lost 4 of 5 since the event. Today they dropped another to the Pirates 5-0. Tom (or Tim, I can't remember) Gorzelanny (sp?) pitched a complete game shutout to shut down the feeble Giants offense. Bonds had the day off.
Oakland A's - The A's, too, are free-falling, they lost again today to the Tigers 11-6. They are 13 games out of first place, and trail the Mariners by 10 1/2. Fans have yet to see the annual second half surge, accompanied by the customary playoff collapse. Unfortunately, even that seems out of the question this year.
San Francisco 49ers - Excitement mounts over the upcoming 49ers season. The Niners are looking to get back to the playoffs for the first time since 2002. Even Frank Gore's broken hand cannot dampen spirits in camp. The suspect defense has been shored up with the additions of Nate Clements and Tully Banta-Cain, and the reciever corps has been improved as well. They have not played their first preseason game yet.
Oakland Raiders - Excitement also surrounds the Raider camp. Though JaMarcus Russsell still has yet to sign, the QB corps moves on without him. Cade McCown, Ander Walter, and Dante Culpepper all played in Sunday's preseason opener, a win against the Cardinals. Of the three, Walter had perhaps the most impressive performance, going 8/11 with 50 yards and a TD pass. Mike Williams also had an impressive game, will a 3 yard touchdown catch in the first quarter.
That's this week's Bay Area Sports wrap up. Feel free to comment, leave me some ideas, I'm always looking for ways to improve. I wouldn't ask for advice if I thought I didn't need it.
