Andy Reid's announcement that McNabb would not dress for tonights game against the Raven seemed to draw alot of attention this weekend. It seemed to me that the media was making it seem like McNabb not dressing was a big deal and that he was not ready to go and things were not looking great. The story seemed to become more than it was. McNabb is the starter on this team, no doubt about it and rightfully so. He is also coming off major surgery and rehab so why would Reid put him in a meaningless first preseason game on the road. He has been looking real good in camp and will definitely be ready for the season opener so why rush it for a game that if he did play would have likely only played the first series anyways. Sitting McNabb gives AJ the chance so start , lets Holcomb showcase what he has in the 2nd quarter, setting up for a trade to the Falcons, Viking or others in need of a quality veteran backup. Finally it leaves the 2nd half to Kolb to allow Reid to see how he is progressing and make the decision if he is ready for the NFL as a third stringer. Good move Andy, as usual.
Shawn Andrews recent ankle injury has given me some concern but it seems that he is doing better and maybe was not as bad as it first seemed. Anytime you see a guy in a walking cast/boot, there is cause for concern but it looks like he just needs some rest and will be fine for the season.
What are everyone's thoughts on tonights game, the score of these games really mean nothing but you like to see how the young guys or second stringers perform in game situations. I look for the defense to be fired up as there is a lot of competition for roster spots and also I want to see how Baskett, and the other young receivers improved in the off season. Not sure yet how much we will see of Curtis and Brown but it's the rest of the receiving corp that I think could be the key to the season, as we know what the veteran WRs will bring.
Can't wait for kickoff.
